The Safety Plan Topic is Fire Protection. There are plenty of ways to create fire hazards on the job site or at your place of employment. Each employer needs to train their personnel to reduce the exposure to accelerants and ignition sources in their working areas. Often times, employers place fire extinguisher in the working area; but expect that the fire department will make use of them. Other times, employers expect that their personnel will magically come by the knowledge of fire extinguisher use, during an emergency.
If you do expect that any one of your employees should use the extinguisher to battle small fire, at their initial stages; say so. Then, augment your fire hazards training. Make sure that your responders know how to use the specific extinguishers which you have on hand. Then work with your local Fire Department to be clear about when they should evacuate and let the professional Fire Service Personnel take over.

If you don’t expect your employees to be the ones who are using extinguishers in a fire incident; clearly say so and limit your training to fire hazard reduction.
