Requirements
The inspection requirement is to correct your hazards when they are observed or discovered. This includes:
- Inspect initially and periodically, also when new processes are introduced and new hazards are found
- Correct unsafe or unhealthy conditions; work practices and work procedures,
- Respond to the identified hazards in a timely manner.
Your Required Response to hazards found, is to take immediate corrective action:
- Correct your conditions, practices and procedures; prioritizing recommendations based on severity of your hazards to employees and others
Recordkeeping
Records of scheduled and periodic inspections are required by the standard to identify unsafe conditions/work practices. The documentation must include the name of the person(s) conducting the inspection, the unsafe conditions and work practices identified, and action taken to correct the unsafe conditions/work practices, and kept for at least a year.
Construction: Conduct an initial written inspection for hazards at each new site. OSHA typically expects daily informal reviews and documentation at least weekly.
Fixed Site Location: Conduct a scheduled facilities inspection approximately every 30 days. If you observe hazards, or introduce a new hazard or work process into your operation; you need to conduct an inspection and take action. |
